Our First European Home

Here we go again! Over the past 38 years, Gene and I have moved a lot. So, being on this grand adventure and going place to place seems pretty easy. I am very pleased with my packing. We left one carry-on at Cécile’s and are living out of two carry-ons, a backpack, and a knitting bag. Therefore if we are in a photo, you may see us wearing the same outfit. Just know, we are using a washing machine and hanging our clothes on a drying rack; so, our clothes are clean.  I will spare you the photo of our chones (underwear) hanging in the living room. 🫣

Our apartment is in Nimes city center. The location is perfect! We didn’t have any trouble locating our address. Getting into the apartment, however, was another adventure. Gene received instructions on how to get the key from a lockbox that was located in the lobby of a nearby bank that was no longer in business. There were several lockboxes, so this must be something that is common. The instructions stated that the box was a small one; it was a large one.

The next set of instructions were on how to enter the building and find the apartment. Yes, those were unclear, too. When we finally found the correct door that would lead us to the apartment, we understood what previous guests meant in their review. There were two different doors that led us to an old, but sturdy staircase. It was apparent that this part of the building was getting renovated. Once we opened our door, we were relieved to see a comfortable home. It really is spacious.

I love the big doors. Green seems to be a popular color. This was the main entrance to the building that has several apartments.

This is another door that leads to our apartment. It is much smaller.

Take a walk with me to get to our place. We just opened the big green door.

  No entry.

Not that door, too. Alas, the door.

Another door!

Let’s walk through this mini courtyard and go under the semi-arch.
Ah, the small door. It will open up to the front of the building.
Let’s go up these stairs that are to our left of the dark pathway.
Ooh, check out the history of this staircase!
 View from the top.

Yay, we made it to the apartment door!
