Leaving Home

The last few days have been crazy! Amongst all the crazy, I just have to express my gratitude for having wonderful people in my life who have expressed their excitement for us. Spending time with them before I leave reminds me how full my life is. Thanks to all of you (you know who you are) for your support and well wishes. I will carry each of you in my heart. After all, you all are the inspiration for this blog! 💖

Now, here is the real crazy! How did Gene manage to convince me that three carry-on bags would work? Six months of living in three little pieces of luggage! If you were to come to my house right now and look at our closet and drawers, you would think we were not going anywhere. Wish me luck!

A Special Field Trip

Our good fortune continued when we got to visit Cécile’s cousin’s boulangerie. We met Matthieu in 2015 when he started his apprenticeship as a baker. We were happy to learn that he recently opened his own boulangerie. Unfortunately the day we went to visit his bakery, he was not there. His grandfather, a retired baker, was helping him with the shop. He allowed us to see where the delicious bread and pastries are created.  Waking up at 2 AM to prepare bread is what it takes to meet the needs of the French people. As Cécile says, “We need our fresh bread, mommy.” That is why boulangeries are open on Christmas Day and every day of the year. I know the people in the community are very pleased that they now have a boulangerie and patisserie that provides them with scrumptious breads and pastries!

Sweet and Savory Crêpes

We are enjoying the crêpes in France. Cécile and Simon made savory crêpes for us and they also took us to a Crêperie. Just in case you missed the news, I made crêpes all by myself!  There also is a crêpes place less than 5 minutes from our apartment. It is fascinating to watch them make the crêpes. They make it look so easy to evenly spread the batter with their special crêpe cooking tool. Flipping the large, thin crêpe without it breaking takes talent.   Crêpe, crêpe, crêpe! The word is just fun to say! Try it.  Savory crêpes are just as good as sweet ones.  I think I did a pretty good job making crêpes. I will definitely practice.  Can you see the difference?
